Metro rail
Metro rail is a new and modern mode of transportation that aims to reduce the traffic congestion and pollution in Dhaka, the capital city. The metro rail system consists of six planned lines, with the first section of MRT Line 6 starting its commercial operation on 29 December 2022. The metro rail is expected to carry about 60,000 passengers per hour per direction and improve the mobility and accessibility of the city dwellers. The metro rail is also a part of the Strategic Transport Plan outlined by the Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority to enhance the urban transport system of Dhaka. The metro rail is owned and operated by the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, a fully government-owned company. The metro rail project is funded by the Government of Bangladesh, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, and the Asian Development Bank. The metro rail is a symbol of the development and progress of Bangladesh and a source of pride for its people.
